Spring is here, finally. Which means it’s time to transition our wardrobe. While as expats living in the tropic, we don’t really transition our wardrobe from one season to the next, after all we’ve got only two: really hot, and hot & humid. We should still have a look at the biggest fashion trends of spring 2018 to refresh our style.
The pastel hue
Peach, lavender, millennial pink, light blue but especially lavender… the powdery tones are in the spotlight this season and give a romantic look to any outfit. You can use and abuse it in light touch, on a statement piece or complete head to toe look.
Trench coat
This wardrobe staple never goes out of style. This season you can wear it classic, pimp it, dress it up or down. There is no fashion faux-pas if you go with a well-cut trench.
Sequin
Versace treated us with the most epic supermodel reunion on their spring 2018 show, and they set the trend for sequin. For a refined look avoid the gold slip on dress and go for sophisticated pieces like a trouser or a pencil skirt in black or silver.
Sheer materials
Be ready to show a little skin as sheer materials are back, and they are not reserved for blouses. Dolce & Gabbana, Dior had it on total look on the runway. It’s probably time to get started on the bikini body if you want to be able to wear this trend.
The ruffle blouse and statement sleeves
This season the ruffle blouses are back, and the statement sleeves are on-point. Puffed sleeves, exposed shoulders and extra-long lengths are in every collection and shelf, it will be hard to miss.
Plastics
I’m not a big fan on that one, but the trend is here and it’s showing everywhere. From bag to boots to coat… from rubber in Calvin Klein show to Vinyl in Valentino, the plastic has been trendy since the autumn and don’t seem to go anywhere. Only a few girls can pull it with style, and Jacey Duprie is one of them.
Short
Forget the mini skirt – next summer you’ll be wearing my all-time favorite shorts, all day, every day. Cut in skinny leather, or paired with a tailored suit blazer, the short will be everywhere this spring.
Suit
Suits were everywhere during the fashion weeks, both off and on runway. From classic cut, to extra-size pant, from staple color or bi-color outfits to color block... It was masculine this winter but be ready to show some leg because this summer, it will be best fitted with a short-tailored suit.
Kitten heels or pointed boots
When it comes to shoes, this season it’s all about kitten heels and pointed boots. (it’s also about supersized sneaker, but I can’t get my head around that one). To complete your ladylike look, go for a pair of elegant mid-heels. And if you want extra point style, go for embellished models looking like the ones from Manolo Blahnik or Roger Vivier.
Fashion wouldn’t be fashion if the trends were only limited to a handful. There are a lot more on the streets and I can’t wait to see what is in store. Overalls, the polka dots, structured jeans, extra-large pants, sheer materials, all red everything have all been spotted on the influencers. Personally, I know what I am going to try this season: a lot of shorts, and suits, and kitten heels…what about you, which ones are you going to try?

Pastel hues and suits are my favorite. I always thought the suit looks powerful on females.
